Isis Books & Gifts Rebrands After 'Ignorant People React In A Negative Way'

By Mark Taylor

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (CBS4) - Longtime bookstore Isis Books & Gifts on South Broadway is rebranding its advertisements after being made a target of vandals.

The store has been in Englewood more than 35 years but recently has had five instances of vandalism by people associating with the terror group that goes by the acronym ISIS.

"Isis has been around for 3,500 years; Egyptian goddess of health, of family and healing," Owner Karen Charboneu-Harrison said.

The store has a new sign that reads Goddess Books & Gifts. The business website also has the new brand.

"When we answer the phone, it's still Isis Books and Gifts," Charboneu-Harrison said.

The store owners wanted to keep the spirit of Egyptian goddess alive in their branding but did not want to continue making themselves a target.

"Why wave a flag in front of ignorant people who may react in such a negative way when we don't have to," Charboneu-Harrison added.

The store's new advertisement reads "Goddess of 10,000 names," which owners say is another call sign for the Egyptian god.

"It's her honorific title, and it's Isis."
