Suspect Flees From Scene After Deadly Rollover Crash Involving Stolen Car

DENVER (CBS4) - Police are searching for the suspect involved in a deadly rollover crash early Thursday morning that involved a stolen car.

A stolen white four-door sedan was heading southbound on Interstate 25 near Colfax Avenue with two people inside when it lost control and collided with a white Chevy pickup truck shortly after 2 a.m.

Both cars struck the concrete wall on the right, then both cars struck the center concrete barrier. The Chevy rolled over in the crash and the driver, 52-year-old Jeffrey Koontz, was killed at the scene.

The passenger of the stolen sedan was taken to the hospital in critical condition, but the driver fled the scene.

The driver of the stolen sedan is described as a white or Hispanic woman with long black hair, between 5' and 5'5" in height. She was wearing a black coat at the time of the crash.

Police said she should have a large gash on her forehead, and are hoping she will show up at the hospital to check on her passenger.

Police are calling it a hit and run, and the accident is still under investigation.
