Man Dressed As Santa Stabs Person On RTD Bus

LAKEWOOD, Colo. (CBS4) - A man dressed head to toe as Santa Claus is accused of stabbing another person on an RTD bus early Thursday morning.

It happened at 1:10 a.m. as the bus was nearing the intersection of Florida Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard in Lakewood.

Police said an argument broke out, and the man in the Santa suit pulled a knife from his costume. He stabbed the male victim, 33, in the torso multiple times. Emergency responders rushed the victim to the hospital with serious injuries.

The suspect got off the bus and fled on foot. Aside from the costume, he is described as having dark hair, in his middle 30's, and was possibly wearing blue jeans under the suit.

Roy Greunke awoke to a crime scene outside of his home.

"I'm not going to open the door for Santa if he knocks," said Greunke.

"The novelty in this whole case I suppose would be that our suspect was dressed entirely in a Santa Claus costume. And I think that that's going to actually end up helping us out. We have a lot more information than we do on a lot of our cases," said Steve Davis of the Lakewood Police Department.

The victim is expected to survive.

An RTD spokesperson said surveillance cameras were on the bus and police are working to retrieve it.

Police are asking for the public's help in identifying the suspect. Anyone with information is asked to call the Lakewood Police Department at 303-987-7111.
