Donations Arrive In Trucks, Carts, And Bag Loads For Care 4 Colorado Toy Drive

By Heather Sadusky

DENVER (CBS4) - Dark skies and a crisp 10 degrees couldn't stop the Care 4 Colorado Toy Drive early Thursday morning. CBS4 and KOA NewsRadio both hosted morning shows at the King Soopers on Colorado and Yale where boxes upon boxes waited to be filled with toys.

Children from the Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Denver will benefit from the community's giving, and a few were there in the early hours.

Anthony, DaiDai, and Xzavier spent time with CBS4's Alan Gionet and spoke with KOA NewsRadio's Steffan Tubbs on air.

Santa Claus made an appearance at the King Soopers and arrived with a trunk full of toys, thanks to the Optimist Club.

Shortly after, a man named Bernie from Broomfield brought a truckload of toys and two brand new bicycles. He said he and his wife decided to go all out this season. The three boys from BGC were happy to walk the bikes inside.

Another man named Jody showed up with a tall truck stuffed with toys. He contributes to the toy drive every year. Xzavier, Anthony, and DaiDai ran three shopping carts out to the truck to help Jody bring all the gifts inside.

Just before 9 a.m. LeeAnne from Aurora arrived with three carts full of toys. She said her family is made up of all boys so they enjoy shopping for the girls. They spent about $600 on toys to donate to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Denver.

Others brought basketballs, dropped off Target gift cards, and donated shopping bags full of toys.

The toy drive continues through Dec. 24, and toys can be dropped at participating King Soopers, the CBS4 studio, and iHeart Radio studios. Gift cards and cash are also accepted.
