Witness To Officer-Involved Shooting: Suspect Was 'Doing Horrible Things'

By Melissa Garcia

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) - One female victim has died after a double stabbing that lead to an officer-involved shooting.

Police say the woman was stabbed to death outside of an Aurora home shortly before 8 p.m. Saturday night. When police arrived an officer shot the suspect, who also died.

Witnesses said the stabbing of a mother and daughter by her boyfriend started at a home on Kenton Street near East 7th Avenue and continued out into the street down the block.

Kay Sigler, an area resident, heard screams and looked out to see the suspect attacking one of the women at the edge of her front yard.

"Hitting her and beating her and doing horrible things," said Sigler.

Police arrived at the scene minutes later.

"One of the police says, 'Drop your weapon, drop your weapon,' and he did not," said Sigler. "And they ran up there and they shot him … everything happened so quickly. I mean, those police officers had to make a quick decision."

Another neighbor, Lilia Herrera, heard the gunshots and got her kids down on the floor.

"It was very scary," said Herrera. "Especially trying to get a 2-year-old and a 4-year-old to stay on the ground."

Next door, Dustin Thomas saw the suspect go down.

"I saw the muzzle flash," said Thomas. "And then after that, I just went into the kitchen, got on the floor. I was done … I was like, 'This isn't my neighborhood anymore. This isn't the Aurora I grew up in.'"

The suspect, shot by an officer, didn't survive. Neither did one of the female victims, who were rushed to the hospital.

On Sunday officers continued to interview witnesses and were still in the early stages of their investigation.

Neither the victims' nor the suspect's identities have been released.
