Suspect In Officer-Involved Shooting Identified
DENVER (CBS4)- The suspect injured in an officer-involved shooting that left one Denver police officer seriously injured has been identified.
Jason Wood was released from the hospital on Thursday and arrested in connection with the shooting. He suffered injuries to his leg during the shooting.
Officer Tony Lopez Jr. was injured when he pulled over Wood during a routine traffic stop near the intersection of N. Federal Boulevard and West Clyde Place on Tuesday. Police say Wood started firing at Lopez, seriously injuring him.
Wood, 36, is being held for investigation of criminal attempted murder in the first degree of a peace officer and investigation of robbery. He is also being held on an outstanding warrant for robbery.
Another person of interest in the case, Melinda Espinoza, turned herself into police and remained in custody on Thursday on an unrelated charge.
Lopez has undergone surgery and remains in the hospital for his injuries.
