Police Investigate Deadly Shooting, Gather Evidence

DENVER (CBS4)- Police in Denver investigated a shooting that left one person dead, one person in critical condition, and two others injured on Saturday.

The shooting happened just before midnight Friday, near West Bayaud Avenue and South Bannock Street in Denver's historic Baker neighborhood.

Police said that one person was shot and killed, and another was rushed to the hospital with critical injuries. Two other shooting victims walked into the hospital.

Neighbors told CBS4 that they heard rapid gunfire.

"Pop, pop... there were like two [shots] at first," said Tom Mesaros, who was at home when the shots rang out. "And then I heard a series of about five or six [shots] more, and I realized that those were not firecrackers. Those were gunshots."

"We're scared to live here," said another neighbor, Brian Morgan, who recently moved in. "I was thinking maybe it was just some fireworks, but after I saw all of the kids running away and saw the police cars show up, I thought maybe it was more like a machine gun."

Saturday, detectives searched the crime scene, took photos, and gathered evidence from the rooftop of a nearby garage. Investigators placed an evidence marker next to a pair of women's shoes lying in the street.

The deceased has not been identified. Police have not released details on a motive, or any suspects.
