Christian McCaffrey 'Fast White Guy' Quote Originated In Broncos Locker Room

BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4) - Christian McCaffrey and his Stanford Cardinal team travel to Boulder to face the CU Buffaloes this weekend, and as the hype about the Colorado native grows a quote from the past has surfaced.

Christian McCaffrey is a grad of Valor Christian High School in Highlands Ranch, and he's currently the NCAA's all-purpose yards leader and a Heisman candidate.

In his report about him this week, CBSSports.com's Dennis Dodd writes that McCaffrey's "breakout season has been framed by a 20-year-old quote from his mother."

McCaffrey is the son of Ed and Lisa McCaffrey, both of whom were athletic stars at Stanford. Ed McCaffrey went on to be a big star for the Denver Broncos, and 17 years ago when Sports Illustrated did a profile on him, the magazine's article included the following quote from Lisa (which was said in a tongue-in-cheek fashion):

"That's why Ed and I got together, so we could breed fast white guys."

CBSSports.com's feature on Christian reveals that the quote originated from his Broncos teammate Rod Smith. Ed and Lisa's kids used to run around in the locker room and Rod joked "What are you and Lisa doing, breeding fast white kids?"
