Sen. Cory Gardner Endorses Rubio For President

DENVER (CBS4) - Five days after a debate in Colorado that he had a strong showing in, Marco Rubio has gotten the endorsement of the state's only Republican senator.

"Today I am proud to announce my endorsement of Marco Rubio to be the next President of the United States," said Gardner of Sen. Rubio in a prepared statement.

"Our country needs a new generation of leadership, and I believe that Marco Rubio presents this nation with the greatest possibilities and opportunities to meet the challenges of the next generation."

During the third debate featuring the candidates for the Republican presidential nomination, held at the University of Colorado in Boulder, fellow Floridian Jeb Bush went after Rubio, saying he was spending too much time campaigning and not enough time on the Senate floor. Rubio brushed off the criticism and went on to become that debate's "clear winner," according to CBS4 Political Specialist Shaun Boyd.

"We're very aware that we have a long way to go. We have a lot of work to do," a Rubio campaign spokesman told CBS4 after the debate.
