A resident told CBS4's Howard Nathan the couple living in the crime scene apartment had been visited by unsavory looking people in recent weeks.

"On arrival officers entered the apartment and they found a male suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital and pronounced deceased at the hospital," a Thornton Police spokesman said.

Police arrested the man who lives in the apartment, Servando Flores, 33, for investigation of second-degree murder. He's been released while the district attorney's office reviews the case.

Police haven't identified the man who was killed but say he entered the apartment illegally. They say he was with Brett Yamagiwa, 26, and Paul Yamagiwa, 24. Those men both face a number of charges including first-degree burglary and aggravated robbery.

"There were four other individuals in the apartment at the time we believe. Two of them were detained on the premises and then two others left the scene in a vehicle and they were later stopped at 20th and Chase in Broomfield by our officers," the police spokesman said.
