Mother Accused Of Kidnapping Son Appears In Court

BRIGHTON, Colo. (CBS4)- A mother accused of kidnapping her son appeared in Adams County Court on Wednesday morning.

Tiffany Rasnic was advised of the charges against her that include kidnapping and violating a restraining order.

According to Westminster Police, Rasnic's 10-year-old son was picked up from school by a relative Monday afternoon.

While at a red light at 80th and Lowell, police said a man in the vehicle behind them approached the boy's relative and flashed a badge or ID of some kind telling the woman to give up her son or she'd be arrested. That's when Rasnic, 31, allegedly took the boy out of the car by force.

According to police, the boy was found safe in Wheat Ridge after they received a tip following the Amber Alert.

The boy's father says he has custody of the child and that his ex-wife, Rasnic, is not supposed to have contact with him because of a protection order.

The circumstances of the protection order were not released, but Westminster Police spokeswoman Kate Kazell said Rasnic has a criminal history so there was concern the boy was in danger. She has one other prior arrest in Colorado for shoplifting. It's not clear if she has a criminal history in other states.

A man was with Rasnic was with her when the boy was kidnapped. He has not been charged.
