Safeway Employee Arrested, Suspected Of Arson At Store

GREELEY, Colo. (CBS4)- An arson suspect has been arrested in connection with a fire at a Greeley Safeway store early Monday morning. The suspect is an employee at that store.

Firefighters in Greeley rushed to the Safeway store at 3526 W. 10th Street at 4:09 a.m. Monday on reports of a fire. Several suspicious fire scenes were located within the store and all were contained either by the building fire suppression system or firefighters.

The store was closed to the public at the time and only occupied by store employees who were stocking shelves. All employees were evacuated from the store.

Police say the surveillance video showed a store employee in the areas where each of the fires were set. Safeway employee Christopher Adame was located near the scene, interviewed and arrested by police.

Adame, 18, from Greeley was booked into the Weld County Jail on charges of first-degree arson, attempted theft, tampering with evidence and false reporting to authorities.

Safeway estimates the damage is more than $50,000. The store remains open for business.
