Police Investigate Shooting At Home With Pot Grow Operation

DENVER (CBS4) - Police rushed to reports of a shooting early Wednesday morning near a home on the 700 block of South Wolff Street in Denver. Detectives are investigating whether the incident is related to a pot growing operation.

A call came in at about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday on a possible burglary where one person in the home fired shots. When officers arrived they couldn't find a suspect or a shooting victim.

A person later walked into Swedish Hospital with gunshot wounds possibly related to the incident. That person has non-life threatening injuries. Police believe the man is a suspect in the home invasion.

"There is an individual that's in the hospital that we want to speak with to see what he can tell us," Sonny Jackson with Denver Police said.

Police are trying to determine if this incident is related to a marijuana grow operation. Officers have not determined whether the pot grow operation is legal or illegal.

Neighbors described the man who owns the house as a stand-up person.

"He's a veteran, I think he's retired. He's a hard worker and he's known as an honest, friendly person," said neighbor Ernest Cook.

The man who owns the home has not been identified by police.

"Strange things can happen suddenly to anyone," said Cook.

Investigators don't know who in the home fired the weapon but are interviewing four people at the police station.

It will be up to the district attorney to press charges and see if Colorado's Make My Day Law applies.
