Man From New York Dies In Colorado Rock-Climbing Fall

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) — A 22-year-old from New York has been identified as the man who died after falling while rock climbing without protective equipment in Colorado.

Officials and family members say Angus Moloney was found dead Sunday morning below a rock formation in Boulder called the Fifth Pinnacle.

Moloney grew up in the small upstate city of Oneonta. Jean Palmer-Moloney, a North Carolina resident, told the Daily Star in New York during a telephone interview that she's stunned by her son's death.

Palmer-Moloney said he was a skilled climber, but wasn't wearing a helmet when he fell. She said young men, especially in their 20s, often feel invincible and have to know they need to be safe.

Moloney had been living in Montreal. He was in Colorado visiting friends.
