Hundreds Of Family, Friends & Strangers Gather To Celebrate Life Of Murdered Toddler

DENVER (CBS4) - Hundreds gathered on Sunday at Sloan's Lake Park in Denver to celebrate the life of a little boy.

Donny Ro'mello Romero was pronounced dead at a hospital last Monday. He was found inside a container with a cord around his neck in his Lakewood apartment. Monday would have been his third birthday.

The park was filled with family and friends and people they didn't even know who were touched by the tragedy. They all came to commemorate his life.

"I have to deal with that every single day. I don't hear him at the top of the stairs anymore yelling for me, 'Come on, daddy.' That hurts," said Donny Romero, Baby Ro'mello's father.

Donny Romero doesn't understand why his baby was taken from him so soon.

"I just put my faith in the man upstairs," he said. "He has all this planned, for some reason. I have no idea why, especially with my son, but he'll bring everything into the light.

Baby Ro'mello's uncle Isaiah Blea was among hundreds who walked around Sloan's Lake in support.

"It's just heartbreaking. So heartbreaking," Blea said. "By this tragedy happening, which isn't fair, it's bringing the family more love, and the community is coming together and showing so much support."

Baby Ro'mello's 21-year-old cousin Roman Paul Isaiah Morales is in custody for his murder and due in court on Tuesday.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family pay for the baby's burial. The family spoke of a funeral service being planned for Saturday.
