Boulder, Fort Collins Mayors Make Rocky Mountain Showdown Even More Interesting
DENVER (CBS4) - The cities of Boulder and Fort Collins have a good, strong relationship -- but all of that will be put aside come Saturday when the Colorado Buffaloes take on the Colorado State Rams in the Rocky Mountain Showdown.
Boulder Mayor Matt Appelbaum and Fort Collins Mayor Wade Troxell and their city managers have agreed to a friendly wager on the game.
If the Buffs lose Appelbaum and City Manager Jane Brautigam will personally deliver a basket of Boulder-made products to Fort Collins. If the Rams lose Troxell and Fort Collins City Manager Darin Atteberry will personally deliver a "Visit Fort Collins" gift basket filled with products made in Fort Collins.
"We are lucky to have these amazing research institutions and very competitive athletic teams in our communities," Troxell said in a statement. "Our cities also work very closely together on issues of regional importance – transportation and sustainability among many other topics. And, as we're learning from our citizens, we need to have a little more fun."

Troxell is a CSU grad and former captain of the football team.
"Game on. This is a chance for Fort Collins to really show Boulder how it's done. Go Rams!" he said.
"Sheep versus Buffalo? Is it really a competition," Appelbaum said. "It's going to be a great game that not only highlights two great universities, but also showcases two progressive communities that are national leaders on sustainability and innovation. Our partnerships off the field make that happen and create the momentum needed to shape our own future and to ensure a resilient environment for the region."
