Hunter Accused Of Shooting At Ultralight Pilot Formally Charged

ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - A hunter has been formally charged with second-degree assault and felony menacing for allegedly shooting a pilot in Adams County.

Two weeks ago James Johnson, 50, was flying his ultralight plane over his cornfield located near East 64th Avenue and Calhoun Byers Road when he was hit by shotgun pellets. Investigators arrested Frank Urban of Byers in connection with the shooting.

Urban, 49, says he was hunting doves and never meant to shoot Johnson. But Johnson says he saw the hunter point the gun straight at him.

Johnson was treated and released at the scene.
