Miss Colorado Walks Onstage In Scrubs, Tells Nursing Story During Talent Round

DENVER (CBS4) - Miss Colorado is receiving praise across social media after the Miss America pageant, but the 22-year-old wasn't crowned the winner.

Kelley Johnson, from Windsor, CO, placed second runner up in the pageant Sunday night, and many of her answers resonated with viewers.

During the talent segment of the show, in which contestants display a talent such as singing or playing an instrument, Johnson walked on stage wearing nurse scrubs and sneakers with a stethoscope around her neck.

She began with a story, "Every nurse has a patient that reminds them why they became a nurse in the first place. Mine was Joe."

Johnson proceeded to give a speech about her experience as a nurse, why the profession is so important, and why every patient matters.

Viewers took to social media to praise Miss Colorado's performance, some saying it is what pageants should be about, others coming out proud to be a nurse.

She's also receiving attention for her response to which woman she would like to see on the ten dollar bill. Johnson answered Ellen Degeneres.

Miss Colorado walked away as second place runner up with $20,000 in scholarship money.
