Active Duty Soldiers Pose For 'Normalize Breastfeeding' Photo

DENVER (CBS4) - A military mom in Texas is showing support for mothers serving in the Army through her photography company.

Tara Ruby posted a photo to social media Thursday evening showing women in uniform breast feeding their babies, and has seen an overwhelmingly positive response.

With the support of the Army, the photo was taken at Fort Bliss in Texas, where a new nursing room facility recently opened.

Ruby was active duty at a time when she says support for breastfeeding mothers was not an option. Now working as a photographer with her own company, Ruby believes military moms have come a long way.

"Today I believe we made history. To my knowledge a group photo to show support of active duty military mommies nursing their little's has never been done. It is so nice to see support for this here at Fort Bliss," Ruby said on her Facebook page.

The photo has been praised for depicting strong women that can serve their country while still serving their family.

Ruby said, "Juggling the tasks and expectations of a soldier, plus providing for their own in the best way they can, makes these ladies even stronger for it."

The photo is in support of a nationwide campaign to 'normalize breastfeeding,' after numerous conflicts over public breastfeeding.
