Pastors Visit Every Aurora & Denver Police Precinct To Pray For Their Protection

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) - As investigators trace the source of a threat made against metro area law officers the community wants to make sure those departments know they have some support.

Pastors who led a prayer gathering Thursday morning at Aurora police headquarters are spending the day stopping by every Aurora and Denver police precinct and substation to pray for protection at each place officers begin their shifts.

Pastor Larry Stevenson said a blessing for Aurora Police Chief Nick Metz and the officers he leads, calling for their safety.

"On this badge, in the name of the Father, the Son and of the Holy Spirit, I claim protection over not only you, but over each and every one of those under your command so that they reach the end of their shift each and every night," Stevenson said.

Earlier this week someone threatened to shoot officers working alone. The threat comes after a series of shootings and violence against law enforcement around the country.

"For these officers to be safe and protected as they go forth to serve and protect," Stevenson said.

The prayer circle marked the second time in as many days people joined hands in front of Aurora police headquarters to show solidarity with law enforcement.

The threat was made by phone anonymously to 911 dispatch and is still under investigation.
