'Multiple Gunshots' Shatter Car Windows On I-225, Unrelated To Car Shootings In Arizona

DENVER (CBS4) - A woman was treated for minor injuries after the windows in her car shattered on Interstate 225 due to multiple gunshots early Thursday morning.

The incident happened near Parker Road at 3:30 a.m. when the woman was heading north on I-225 in her four-door sedan.

After the windows shattered the woman pulled off to the right shoulder before the Parker Road exit and several patrol cars were soon on scene.

Denver police confirmed the windows were shot out from a passing vehicle. It is believed to be an isolated incident and unrelated to the recent car shootings in Arizona.

"It was gunfire that was shot multiple times at the vehicle; unsure how it was actually done," Raquel Lopez with Denver Police said.

Police are investigating if the shooting was random or if the woman was targeted. The woman couldn't give police a good description of the suspect's vehicle.

A task force has been investigating mysterious cases of shattered windows along Interstate 25 in Northern Colorado earlier this year. There is one confirmed occurrence of shots fired, in which the driver was injured. In no other incident were bullet holes or spent rounds found.

The task force is also investigating other random roadside shootings that left a bicyclist dead in Windsor and man walking at night dead in Loveland.

All of the shootings happened within about 15 miles of each other.

According to The Associated Press, a member of the task force called authorities in Arizona to see if there were any similarities. Investigators reportedly found no links, according to David Moore, spokesperson for the task force.
