1 Person Shot During Robbery, Gypsum Residents Urged To Stay Home

GYPSUM, Colo. (CBS4) - One person was shot in the chest during a robbery in Gypsum on Friday afternoon. All schools in the town were placed on lockout while police searched for two suspects and residents urged to stay home.

The shooting happened near Red Hill Elementary in Gypsum about 12:30 p.m. at the Tienda Montes restaurant located at 925 Green Way Dakota Square, a shopping area.

Witnesses told police there was an armed robbery resulting in an altercation with one person who suffered a gunshot wound. Two people ran away from the store.

The victim was conscious and breathing when rushed to the hospital by ambulance.

All schools were placed on lock out and parents asked to stay away from the schools. A community alert went out to all residents.

That alert was altered about 4 p.m. with this message sent out by Eagle County authorities: "Gypsum residents can return home. Checkpoints will be set up in the Gypsum Estates area. Once home, keep doors and windows locked and stay inside."

Multiple law enforcement agencies are in the area searching for the two suspects.

There was not suspect description.
