CU Police Arrest Suspected Bike Thief

BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4)- Police at the University of Colorado Boulder campus say they've captured a bicycle thief- red handed.

Police arrested Joel Weber on Aug. 27 after several people reported seeing him trying to cut bike locks from two locations on the CU campus.

Officers watched him outside the Environmental Design Building on 18th Street and in the area of Kittredge West residence hall on Kittredge Loop.

Police claim Weber had cable cutters and other burglary tools on him when they took him into custody near the intersection of 18th Street and Euclid Avenue.

Weber had a warrant out for his arrest on theft charges in Thornton.

Police are investigating whether Weber is behind recent bike thefts on the CU campus.

CUPD is seeking information from anyone who may have had a bike recently stolen or who might have seen Weber conducting similar activity recently. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the CU-Boulder Police Department at 303-492-6666.
