Breckenridge Police On Fatal Hit & Run: 'Community Is Upset ... It Is A Big Deal'

BRECKENRIDGE, Colo. (CBS4)- The victim in a deadly hit-and-run in Breckenridge has been identified and investigators want to find the person who met with the suspect following the deadly collision.

Police rushed to the 600 block of Airport Road about 11 p.m. Monday on reports of a female lying next to the roadway. That woman has been identified as Cristina Martinez Hernandez from Breckenridge.

Hernandez, 26, was pronounced dead at the scene despite attempts by the Red, White & Blue Fire Department to revive her. Police believe the driver struck her and drove away. The speed limit in that area is 25 mph. Detectives are trying to determine if speed played a factor in the crash.

"The community is upset, this is considered a safe environment, it is a big deal," said Breckenridge Police Assistant Chief Dennis McLaughlin.

McLaughlin said investigators spent Wednesday examining surveillance video from cameras that may have captured the hit-and-run.

An autopsy on Hernandez is scheduled for Thursday to determine the exact cause of death.

Now investigators are searching for details about the person who met with the suspect right after the crash in the Muncheez/Breck Organic Therapy parking lot. The business is located at 1900 Airport Road.
