Broncos Notebook Sept. 1, 2015

Broncos practiced again in shorts and helmets Tuesday morning.

Broncos now down to 75 after waiving outside linebacker Danny Mason and tight end Dan Light after practice Tuesday. Earlier in the day, the team released receiver Nathan Palmer.

Expect to see plenty of backup running backs and receivers on special teams in the preseason finale Thursday night. That includes former starting running back Montee Ball. Head coach Gary Kubiak said special teams play will be a huge factor in which backups remain on the final roster.

Chris Harris (hamstring) and Omar Bolden (ribs) did not practice on Tuesday.

Quarterback Brock Osweiler has good reason to look ahead to Thursday's game. He will start in the last preseason contest against the Cardinals. It will be, barring injury to Peyton Manning, the last significant action Osweiler will see this season.

3rd string quarterback Trevor Siemian has created some buzz with his preseason play. The Broncos may be forced to keep him on the active roster to prevent another team from poaching him from their practice squad.

Siemian told the media Tuesday where he'll land on the roster (active or practice squad) wasn't a big concern for him. He said the best advice he's received from Peyton Manning was to focus on what he could control and his roster spot isn't one of them.

Broncos guard Ben Garland runs this morning at practice. Garland may be on the outside looking in when it comes to making the team's final 53 man roster. The Broncos signed All Pro Evan Mathis last week, which moved Garland to 3rd team at left guard. Garland has been with the Broncos organization since 2010, including a 2 year hiatus from the team as he fulfilled his military service obligation with the United States Air Force.

Broncos running back Montee Ball blocks during a special teams drill today at practice. Ball will see extensive playing time Thursday night in the Broncos final preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals. Ball appears to be on the bubble of making the final 53 man roster and his play on special teams may be key in his securing a spot on the team.
