Semi Strikes At Least 3 Bridges Along NB Lanes Of I-25, Keeps Driving

DENVER (CBS4)- Three lanes of northbound Interstate 25 were closed for a few hours Thursday afternoon after a semi struck at least three bridges and kept driving. Traffic was reduced to one lane and backups stretched for miles.

A white semi hauling a yellow excavator or backhoe on a flatbed apparently struck four bridges in the northbound lanes along I-25 at 20th Street, 23rd Avenue, Speer and possibly the 84th Avenue bridge about 1:43 p.m. Thursday.

Three northbound lanes were closed until just before 4 p.m. while crews picked up concrete chunks from the interstate.

Copter4 flew over the bridge where northbound traffic was reduced to one lane. Even though the lanes were reopened, the backups continued for miles and drivers were urged to take an alternate route during the afternoon commute.

No one was hurt when the concrete chunks fell onto the interstate. It is unclear whether the semi driver knew whether he was over the height limit for overpasses along that stretch of I-25.
