Detectives Try To Breathe Life Into Cold Case Murder Of Popular Video Producer

DENVER (CBS4) - Police in Denver continue to search for answers one year after the mysterious murder of a popular businessman.

Philip Lucero's body was found in his running car along Martin Luther King Boulevard on Aug. 24, 2014, shortly after 3 a.m.

Lucero's friends are also still looking for answers.

"Complete shock. Utter shock," said Lucero's friend, Rachael West. "To think that there are no leads now, I can't believe it."

The 48-year-old had been shot once inside the car near Bellaire Street, a few blocks from his home.

"He had been at the Colorado Rockies game with a friend that night. They stopped at another location after that," Cmdr. Ronald Saunier said.

Saunier says the popular video producer had no known enemies. A year later detectives still have no idea what happened and why.

"We really don't know the motive in this case. If it was a road rage situation or a possible carjacking or a random shot that was fired," he said.

West worked on several projects with Lucero. She says he was loved by his friends and colleagues.

"Encouraging; he was always there ... he really was a cornerstone to the creative media community in Denver," West said.

Saunier says the original two detectives are still actively working the case and they too are frustrated.

"Every cold case is frustrating, especially the detectives that live this," he said. "They are the ghosts that haunt them as this goes on. They live and breathe these cases."

As detectives try and breathe life into a troubling cold case, West is still hoping for justice for her friend.

"If anyone knows anything, please come forward," she said.
