Groups Want To Buy Private Land For Rocky Mountain Park

ESTES PARK, Colo. (AP) — Nonprofit groups want to raise $3.6 million to buy a privately owned parcel of land inside Rocky Mountain National Park and turn it over to the park.

The Rocky Mountain Conservancy and the Trust for Public Land said Wednesday the owners of the 40-acre site of Cascade Cottages offered to sell it to the park before offering it for public sale.

The land is about a mile from the Fall River entrance on the park's east side. It straddles Fall River Road, with about half the land undeveloped. The other half is occupied by a dozen rustic cabins rented for summer use, mostly to short-term visitors.

It's the largest remaining privately held property within the park.
