'Terracotta Warriors 3-D' Is A New Concept For Live Theater

DENVER (CBS4) - It's a one-of-a-kind show with a one-of-a-kind look. It also has an international cast that makes the stunning technical aspects of the show human and very theatrical. Critic at Large Greg Moody went backstage and onstage with "Terracotta Warriors 3-D."

Although "Terracotta Warriors 3-D" carries a storyline steeped in Chinese history, it also sports and international cast with American performers at the Newman Center on the University of Denver campus.

Together with Chinese performers, they take the audience on an unexpected journey through Chinese history.

"This particular instance of 'Terracotta Warriors,' this is the first time that we're using American singers," producer Dennis Law said. "And this is not only the first time for us, I've never heard of an experience where a Chinese troop comes to America and will incorporate American dancers right into principal roles."

Years ago "Terracotta Warriors" hit Denver with an eye-popping performance, according to Moody.

"This time, however, the show is shorter, tighter in its storytelling, and built with state-of-the-art visuals in mind," Moody said.

"This is the first-of-its-kind in the world," Law said. "Mixed with something that makes the stage larger than it ever could have been in the past."

What audiences can expect is a new concept for live theater with backgrounds that reach into infinity and three-dimensional objects and characters that reach off the stage and into the audience itself.

"I think it accomplishes what my professional goal was -- to deliver an immersive 3-D experience in a theatrical performance on stage that has never been seen before," Law said.

"Terracotta Warriors 3-D" is playing now at the Newman Center on the University of Denver campus and runs through Sept. 15.
