Hospital Workers Prepare For Radiation, Burn Patients
AURORA, Colo. (CBS4)- The University of Colorado Hospital prepared for the worst on Wednesday. The hospital in Aurora put their training to the test during a disaster drill.
Nurses, doctors and first responders practiced treating out-of-state patients for radiation and burn injuries.
Dozens of actors arrived at Denver International Airport and were rushed to local hospitals as part of the drill.
"Unless you actually move people and physically take them places, access them and place them into beds, you really don't know what your capacity is. If you just plan for it on paper, it turns out when you do it in real life it doesn't work very well," said UCH Director for Emergency Preparedness Charles Little.
The mock scenario is aimed at improving response time and teamwork on a local and federal level.
