Snowmass Village Councilman Could Face Recall

SNOWMASS VILLAGE, Colo. (CBS4)- A Snowmass Village town councilman arrested for DUI and then allegedly trashing a Pitkin County jail cell, is eligible for a recall election.

The recall effort stems from an incident in June when officers brought Chris Jacobson to the Pitkin County Jail after he was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

He then allegedly got out of control inside the cell, causing more than $14,000 in damage.

Because of that damage, Jacobson was also charged with a felony criminal mischief charge.

Video posted to YouTube shows the damage.

This week voters submitted a recall petition with 323 signatures. The town clerk has determined that 256 are valid. The number of signatures required to call a recall election is 242.

Written protests to the recall can be submitted through 4 p.m. Aug. 21 to the town clerk. The town clerk will hear all protests and then set a date for a recall election.
