Missy Franklin Captures Bronze In Worlds In 200 Free
KAZAN, RUSSIA (CBS4) - Missy Franklin has won her second bronze medal at the world swimming championships.
The Colorado superstar swimmer is competing for the first time on the world stage since turning pro earlier this year.
So far Franklin isn't showing the championship form she demonstrated two years ago at the championships. In 2013 in Spain she won six gold medals. Halfway through the 2015 FINA World Championships events in Kazan, Russia, she has yet to claim a gold.
Franklin placed 3rd in the 200-meter freestyle with a time of 1 minute, 55. 49 seconds on Wednesday night. Winning the race with a surge at the end was American Katie Ledecky (with a time of 1:55.16), who Franklin says she has lots of experience racing against.
"After racing with Katie for the last couple of years, I know her last 25 is always just ridiculous and that's how Katie is. ... I knew she was going to come back really strong," Franklin said.
Franklin also won a bronze with her relay team in the 4x100m freestyle relay and was fifth in the 100 backstroke.
