LEGO Animals Join Wild Animals At Denver Zoo

DENVER (CBS4)- This week large sculptures of LEGO animals will join the wild animals that live at the Denver Zoo.

The nearly three dozen LEGO brick sculptures are part of the "Nature Connects, Art With LEGO Bricks" exhibit at the zoo sponsored by The Goddard Schools. Some were made specifically for the Denver Zoo.

The exhibit opens to the public on Friday and continues through Nov. 1 and features life-size and even larger than life animal and plant sculptures scattered throughout the park.

Some of the sculptures include works of art representing species from North America and abroad like a 400-pound bumblebee and a hummingbird with an eight-foot wing span.

"The big sculpture piece for the exhibit is the hummingbird with a trumpet flower. There will also be a polar bear, snow leopard and whooping crane for part of the endangered species collection that is new. There will also be some great new pieces coming in October as part of our Halloween celebration," said Denver Zoo spokeswoman Amber Christopher.

There is a special preview night on Aug. 6 and the Saturday Night Block Party on Aug. 8 where guests can enjoy the exhibit at night. The cost for both events is $15 for adults and $10 for children ages 3-11. Zoo members receive a $5 discount. Proceeds support the Denver Zoo Scholarship Fund. Visitors will also get the chance to meet the exhibit's artist Sean Kenney.
