2 Officers Cleared In Downtown Shooting That Left Gunman Injured

DENVER (CBS4) - Denver's district attorney says two officers were justified when they opened fire in a shooting in downtown Denver in May.

The shooting happened in the middle of the night on May 25 near 17th and California.

Police say Chisom Nwandilibe, 28, was pointing a semi-automatic pistol at random people and then fired at police.

Officers Adam Foisy and Roman Yepishin shot at him and one bullet hit Nwandilibe in the arm.

Denver's DA Mitch Morrissey on Friday praised the officers' response and cleared them of any wrongdoing.

An excerpt from Morrissey's letter to Denver Police Chief Robert White regarding the matter lies below:

Their quick response forced Nwandilibe to run from the scene, discard his weapon, and led to his apprehension within minutes of his flight. Their willingness to confront the threat Nwandilibe presented is in the highest tradition of civilian law enforcement. We are grateful neither officer was
injured or killed and that Nwandilibe was not more seriously injured.
