Teenager Under Arrest In Deadly High-Speed Collision

DENVER (CBS4) - A 17-year-old is in custody after an early morning collision at Federal Boulevard and West 23rd Avenue that left one woman dead.

The crash happened shortly before 3 a.m. Monday, when police say the teen ran a red light at the intersection at a very high rate of speed. The second vehicle was traveling westbound on West 23rd Avenue, and rolled over when it was hit.

A woman inside that car died on the way to the hospital, and a male inside has serious injuries but is expected to survive. A third person suffered minor injuries.

The teen driver was taken into custody and held on charges of vehicular homicide and vehicular assault. The name will not be released because the suspect is minor.

The alleged speeding in that area comes as no surprise to people who live and work nearby.

"All the time I see a lot of cars are really speeding very fast. I think it's dangerous. It's not this area I just think the people don't drive safely," said Maleney Guzman who works at a business near the intersection.
