>DENVER (CBS4) – The Denver man convicted of killing his neighbor and putting his neighborhood on alert was sentenced on Monday to 48 years in prison.

The sentence handed down on Monday includes 40 years for second-degree murder and eight years for assault. Two years for child abuse will be served at the same time.

Prosecutors say the bombs he created were propane tanks that were rigged with gunpowder on top so they would explode when Abeyta shot at them.
The incident happened in August 2013 at his home on South Irving Street near Evans in the Harvey Park neighborhood. He has been behind bars since he was arrested.

Abeyta’s wife was shot in the lower part of her body. His neighbor Sandra Roskilly, 47, was killed when she tried to help Abeyta’s wife.
