Thieves Storm Into Pawn Shop, Make Off With Weapons, Jewelry
DENVER (CBS4) - Federal investigators are working with authorities in in Adams County in the hunt for the thieves who stormed into a business and got away with 14 handguns.
The crime happened on July 13 at Jumping Jack Cash, located at 5700 Lincoln Drive, and some of the crime was captured on the business's surveillance video.
Two men wearing black hoodies and bandanas on their faces came in through the back of the store with guns drawn, according to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
They held the employees at gunpoint and threatened to kill them. They ordering staff to empty the register and fill a bag with cash. Then they forced the workers to open a glass case, where they stole jewelry and the guns.
One of the robbers thrust a gun into one of the employee's ribs and ordered him to the ground. They also aimed a gun at the head and neck of another worker. None of the employees were hurt.
"Brazen is probably a perfect word to describe what these two individuals did," said Ron Humphries, Special Agent in Charge at the ATF Denver Field Division.
Humphries said the robbery is the first of a licensed gun dealer in Colorado this year, and it's particularly concerning for several reasons. Employees at gun dealers are typically armed themselves, which didn't deter the suspects. It also took place in the morning when the store was open and anyone could have walked in.
"I see it and I think about, you know, it could have been me in there. It could have been my family, someone I care about," Humphries said. "That is a problem."
The suspects were described as being two black men. One was between 6-foot-2 and 6-foot-4 and weighed more than 200 pounds. The other was 5-foot-8 and thin, and in the video he's seen wearing what appears to be a purple brimmed Colorado Rockies hat. They were also driving a white 90s model Honda that had no license plates and missing center hubcaps.
Federal agents say this may not be the suspects' first robbery and warn they may be getting more bold.
"We very well could be looking at an armed crew that's hitting at least three places that we've seen similar connections," Humphries said.
The ATF is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspects.
