Body Recovered From Roaring Fork River Near Aspen

ASPEN, Colo. (CBS4)- Search and rescue crews conducted a search of the Roaring Fork River near Aspen on Thursday afternoon and recovered a body.

The Pitkin County dispatch received calls just before 1 p.m. reporting that there was a body floating in the water. A Pitkin County Sheriff's deputy went to the Weller Trailhead parking lot to search the river and confirmed there was a body in the river and the person was deceased.

A swift water recovery team from the Aspen Fire Department deployed to help with the removal of the body. The body was recovered and all crews were out of the water by 8 p.m.

The coroner's office will continue with their investigation that includes an autopsy to reveal the person's identity. The cause of death is unknown.

It is unknown whether there was a missing person in the Aspen area at the time the body was spotted.
