Boulder Mayor Matthew Appelbaum To Meet Pope For Climate Change Discussion
BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4) - Boulder Mayor Matthew Appelbaum has been invited to meet the Pope.
Appelbaum is one of a handful of mayors from around the world who will travel to Vatican City to meet with Pope Francis on July 21. The two-day discussion will cover topics like climate change, sustainability and human trafficking.
The conference entitled Modern Slavery and Climate Change, The Commitment of the Cities is for mayors to help put moral pressure on the United Nations to approve new goals regarding climate change. It's sponsored by the Pontifical Academy of Science and Social Science at Vatican City.
"The City of Boulder's leadership on climate change is globally recognized, and earned us a spot at this important gathering," Appelbaum said in a statement. "We have an opportunity to share our community's commitment to serious climate change initiatives in the presence of Pope Francis, who has already called on the world to find ways to address the climate crisis and its connection to human environments."
