Video Of Deadly DUI Crash Released After Driver Sentenced

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) - The Arapahoe County District Attorney's Office released video of the DUI crash that killed a teenager after sentencing the driver on Wednesday.

Ever Olivos-Gutierrez will spend 40-years behind bars. Police said he was drunk when he hit the car of 17-year-old Juan Carlos Dominguez-Palomino last year, killing him.

It was Olivos-Gutierrez's fourth DUI as an undocumented immigrant, a point reiterated in court on Wednesday and reflected in his heavy sentencing.

Traffic cameras at East Colfax Avenue and Dayton Street captured the night of March 24, 2014, debris flying and smoke rising after Olivos-Gutierrez sped through a red light and into Dominguez-Palomino's vehicle at 80 miles an hour.

The judge gave Olivos-Gutierrez the maximum sentence for a repeat offender with four DUIs. The night of the crash, police say Olivos-Gutierrez used cocaine and had at least 10 drinks before getting behind the wheel.

"You drink, you drive, you kill somebody … you'll go to prison for a very, very, very long time," said Mark Hurlbert, Assistant District Attorney, 18th Judicial District, after court.

He added that this sentencing sends a strong message to anyone who chooses to drink and drive, timely for this holiday weekend.
