Clean Up Underway After Storms Cause Water Damage

DENVER (CBS4)- Businesses are cleaning up after Wednesday night's storm left a lot of water damage in the Denver metro area.

The first floor of the Ritchie Center at the University of Denver was flooded along with the Joy Burns Arena and Hamilton Gym. The basketball practice gym was closed on Thursday while crews assessed the damage.

Some businesses along the South Platte River were flooded along with several cars. The water was so high outside of Publication Printers, near Evans and South Huron Street, that it measured above the tires of the stranded vehicles.

"The street in front of me was under four feet of water, cars were floating... the employee's cars were floating," said Publication Printers Kyle Barrett.

Despite the damage the business was open on Thursday.

The business across the street, Barnum Printers, had about three feet of standing water inside for several hours. The building is not ruined but the business may suffer some delays.

A large tree was downed near 10th and Elmira in Aurora in the area where the National Weather Service confirmed an EF-1 tornado touched down on Wednesday evening.
