Climber Injured Falling From Boulder's First Flatiron

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) — A climber is in critical condition after falling at least 50 feet from near the top of the First Flatiron at Boulder's Chautauqua Park.

Boulder County sheriff's Sgt. Randy Wilber says the climber lives out-of-state and had been climbing without the use of any safety equipment at the time of the accident. He was not identified.

Authorities say the man broke one of his legs and suffered a head laceration. A witness reported the fall, and rescuers arrived shortly after 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

The man was taken by medical helicopter to a hospital in Denver and was in critical condition. Officials expect him to survive.
