Pilot OK After Small Plane Crashes Right After First-Ever Takeoff
LONGMONT, Colo. (CBS4) - A pilot is okay in Longmont Tuesday morning after the small plane he was piloting came down in a corn field right after takeoff and flipped over.
The incident happened just after 8 a.m. near the intersection of North 75th Street and Nelson Road, by Vance Brand Airport.
Kenneth Bickers, 55, told police the engine failed on the plane shortly after takeoff.
Bickers walked away from the crash after the plane wound up upside down and apparently was unhurt.
Officials with the Boulder County Sheriff's office said this was the first time the plane had ever flown. It is a single engine, two seater plane known as an air camper. Authorities said it was a replica of a 1920 plane and was homebuilt.
