Series Of Bizarre Break-Ins Investigated In Boulder

BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4)- Police in Boulder are investigating a series of bizarre break-ins but have not said whether they are connected, despite shocking similarities.

Early Friday morning a woman who lives on Aurora Avenue near 14th Street woke up to a stranger pulling the covers off her feet while she was sleeping. He ran away when she screamed but he had already stolen cash from wallets in the house.

The same day, police were called to a home near Toedtlik Drive and Grinnell Avenue. A woman told police that a man she didn't know had broken into her bedroom through a sliding glass door and stole a ring worth $15,000.

Boulder resident Frances Galin said the crimes sound familiar. There was a rumor circulating about similar instances that had happened in her neighborhood.

"Some guy would break into houses, go into girls' bedrooms, tickle their feet and when the girls would wake up he would run away," said Galin.

The next day, Saturday, on Marine Street, a woman called police after she found a man hiding behind her bedroom door. He ran after a confrontation but had already stolen cash from wallets in that house.

The man is described as a white male in his 20s with darker-toned skin, 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-10, wearing grey shorts and royal blue sneakers.

"I think it's really weird and creepy and I think that the guy should be caught because it's really scary if that escalated into anything more," Galin.

A fourth break-in over the weekend was also reported but nothing was stolen in that case.

Police are using the recent break-ins as a reminder for residents to be extra vigilant about locking their doors and windows.

Anyone with any information about the break-ins is asked to call Boulder Police at 303-441-3333.
