Procession Takes Place For Fallen Cadet Trooper

LONGMONT, Colo. (AP/CBS4) - Members of law enforcement from around the state are honoring a Colorado State Patrol cadet hit and killed by a driver allegedly fleeing a traffic stop.

They drove in a procession for Taylor Thyfault on Interstate 25 from Longmont, where Thyfault was killed Saturday, to the church in Lafayette for his memorial service Friday morning.

On one overpass on the route, a huge American flag was hung from the ladders of two fire trucks. Firefighters from Mountain View Fire Rescue and the Frederick Firestone Protection district stood at attention while the procession passed.

Police say Thyfault, 21, was at a separate accident investigation with Trooper Clinton Rushing when Rushing learned of the chase and deployed stop sticks to try to catch Christopher Gebers.

Gebers, 27, swerved to miss the sticks and hit Rushing and then Thyfault.

Gebers says his accelerator was stuck, but Gebers had lost his license and wasn't even supposed to be driving.

Rushing remains in the hospital in critical condition.
