Broncos Rookie Linemen Garcia, Kilgo All Smiles After Signing Deals

DENVER (CBS4) - Sometimes when an NFL team drafts a player out of college that player is shocked by the team that does the picking. For rookie Max Garcia there wasn't any such shock when the Broncos claimed him in the fourth round.

"I had a feeling (the Broncos) were really interested," said Garcia, who actually came to Denver and met with the Broncos brain trust before the draft.

"I took a trip out here. Got to meet Coach (Gary) Kubiak and (Offensive Line) Coach Clancy Barone," he told CBS4's Vic Lombardi on All Access Sunday night. "Coach Barone was really high on me when I came out here and I talked Xs and Os with him."

Garcia, an offensive lineman out of Florida, is hopeful he'll be a quick learner and will wind up getting playing time on the line in his first season. He's shown himself to be a mobile center and will likely fit well in the Broncos zone blocking scheme.

"Personally, I have really high expectations. I … don't limit myself at all," he said. "I'm just working the system, learning it, wanted to get that down pat as quickly as possible and give myself a chance to earn it."

Garcia said getting drafted was "a dream come true," which are sentiments his new teammate Darius Kilgo also echoed on All Access. Lombardi interviewed both Kilgo and Garcia and congratulated them both on signing their first pro contracts with the Broncos last week.

The two players were actually teammates a few years ago at Maryland, and Kilgo reached out to his old teammate right away after being picked by the same pro team.

"First thing I did was try to get in contact with him and get his number and just congratulate him," said Kilgo, who is a defensive lineman.

Kilgo remembers lining up against Garcia often during practice.

"He brings some boom to the table," said the sixth rounder.
