Police Release ID Of Man Allegedly Shot, Killed By Stepson In Sheridan
SHERIDAN, Colo. (CBS4) - Police have released the identity of a man they say was shot and killed by his stepson.
Larry Jacobs, 59, died after being shot in the head Wednesday morning at his residence located on South King Street. His stepson, Nicholas Benhmida, made his first appearance in court Thursday morning to be charged with murder.
Investigators say Benhmida burst through the door of his parents' residence and fired the fatal shot.
Police arrested Benhmida about two hours later in a parking lot outside the Denny's near Wadsworth Boulevard and Jefferson Avenue.
Before the arrest investigators say Benhmida went into the Canyon View Animal Hospital with his dog. A veterinarian at the hospital says he made an unusual request when a tech took him and the dog into an exam room.
"I want the drug that you give dogs to put them to sleep because they're going to go where I go," Dr. Paula Bumpers with Canyon View Animal Hospital. "I presume he was planning on killing himself and taking the dogs with him."

Bumpers said the tech gave him the drugs when he pointed a gun but that he dropped the solution.
"You could tell there was something very seriously wrong with him and he was crazy," Bumpers said.
Police found dogs in Benhmida's car when he was arrested. They were all okay.
