Broomfield Teacher Charged With Sexually Assaulting Student

BROOMFIELD, Colo. (CBS4/AP) - A Broomfield middle school teacher is accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting a student for nearly a year, starting when she was just 13 years old.

"That's just really sick," said one Broomfield resident.

"I just think that's terrible somebody would do that to a child," said another Broomfield resident.

"I'm glad my daughter's not here anymore," said yet another Broomfield resident.

Prosecutors filed sexual assault charges against 45-year-old Christian Rocky Armstrong on Wednesday, a day after he was arrested.

District Attorney Dave Young says the charges allege the history and geography teacher at Westlake Middle School assaulted the girl at the school from August 2012 through May 2013.

The 11-page arrest affidavit details accounts of the assaults, including the victim describing how Armstrong "touched her entire body, under her clothes and on her skin" and she also referenced the teacher "made her touch his genitals."

She described sexual assaults in classrooms, a storage closet and the computer lab that happened close to five times a week.

In the affidavit she also told police that Armstrong told her not to tell anyone and she was only a child and that no one would believe her.

On the victim's computer, police said they found multiple sexually explicit emails from Armstrong.

Adams 12 Five Star Schools spokesman Joe Ferdani said Armstrong has been on leave since March 17 when the police investigation began.

Westlake Middle School's principal sent home a letter to parents assuring them a child's welfare is the school's top concern. Here is a portion of that letter: A child's welfare is always our top concern and we have systems in place to provide a safe environment for our students and staff.

This case remains an active criminal matter and is being handled by the District Attorney's Office for Adams and Broomfield Counties, and we are cooperating with them.

These charges are upsetting to the entire Westlake community. The safety and welfare of students is our top priority and a potential violation of that trust impacts all of us.

Armstrong was released from custody after he was outfitted with an electronic monitoring bracelet. Armstrong is due to appear in court on Friday to be advised of the charges he's facing.
