Man Fatally Shot By Trinidad Police Officer Identified

TRINIDAD, Colo. (AP) - Authorities have released the name of a man who was shot and killed by a Trinidad police officer.

Police were called to the Almar Trailer Park on April 24 on a report of an "unauthorized individual" on the property. An officer began searching a trailer and found 20-year-old Todd Jamal Dye inside.

The officer says Dye complied with his commands to get on the ground, but he then jumped up and began to run out of the room. Investigators say he was shot when he turned back at the officer and pointed a gun at him, and that a review of the officer's body camera video confirmed the sequence of events.

Dye had an active warrant out of El Paso County for contempt of court after he left a community corrections facility in Colorado Springs.
