Denver Mayor: 'We Can Be Better Than That' On Race Relations

DENVER (CBS4)- Denver's mayor teamed up with the community and law enforcement to continue the conversation on race and justice on Saturday.

Members of the community gathered with law enforcement for role playing exercises and relationship building.

The goal is to build a strong tie between the community and active police officers.

"If it's just when you correct my behavior then that's the kind of relationship we're going to have. But I think we can be better than that and we can create a better symbiotic relationship between the police department and those of us who call Denver our home," said Denver Mayor Michael Hancock.

The summit also evaluated the recommended improvements including recognizing and providing a platform for youth voices.

Saturday's summit was the latest in a series of community gatherings in Denver between elected officials, police officers and community members to improve understanding between the groups.
